Special Function Details
Oil Service Reset
Service Lamp Reset
- If the service lamp is illuminated, vehicle service is required. After servicing, reset the driving mileage or time to turn off the lamp and initiate a new service cycle.
- Use VIDENT tools to reset the service lamp after changing engine oil or components monitoring oil life.
Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) System Maintenance
Brake Pad Replacement
- When brake pad wear triggers the sensor, a signal is sent to the onboard computer. After replacing the pads, reset the system to prevent alarms.
- Reset is required when:
- Brake pads and wear sensors are replaced
- Brake pad indicator lamp is on
- Sensor circuit short is repaired
- Servo motor is replaced
Battery Replace Test (BRT)
Battery Matching
- Reset the battery monitoring unit to clear old fault data and re-establish accurate monitoring based on current battery status.
- Required when:
- Main battery is replaced – prevents false detection and restores auxiliary functions like auto start/stop, sunroof, and power windows.
- Battery monitoring sensor is replaced – ensures accurate electric quantity monitoring and avoids incorrect instrument panel readings.
Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Control System
DPF Regeneration
- Periodically burns off particulate matter (PM) through high-temperature combustion or catalyst-assisted methods to maintain filter performance.
- Required when:
- Bleed pressure sensor is replaced
- PM trap is removed or replaced
- Fuel additive injector is replaced
- Catalytic oxidizer is replaced
- DPF regeneration MIL is on after maintenance
- DPF control module is replaced
Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) – Throttle Matching
Throttle Matching
- Initialize throttle actuator so ECU recalibrates idle and throttle control for accurate intake regulation.
- Required when:
- ECU is replaced or memory is lost
- Throttle assembly is replaced
- Intake passage is cleaned or replaced
- Throttle cleaning alters airflow characteristics
Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Calibration
Steering Angle Reset
- Establish a zero reference point when the vehicle is moving straight. This allows the ECU to accurately calculate left and right steering angles.
- Required after:
- Replacing the steering angle sensor
- Replacing steering components (gearbox, column, tie rod, knuckle)
- Performing four-wheel alignment
- Recovering from body damage
Prime Fuel Pump (PFP)
- Tests Prime Fuel Pump function.
- Air can enter fuel lines during diesel system servicing, causing starting issues. This function helps prime the system to remove air.
Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS)
Headlamp Matching
- Initializes the adaptive headlight system, which adjusts lighting angle based on speed, body posture, and ambient light conditions.
Tire Pressure Sensor Reset (TPMS)
Tire Pressure Reset
- After tire maintenance and the TPMS light activation, reset the system to clear warnings and restore normal operation.
- Required after:
- Tire pressure correction
- Tire replacement or repair
- TPMS sensor replacement
- Installation of TPMS-capable tires
Injector Coding
- Write or rewrite actual injector codes into the ECU to ensure precise fuel injection per cylinder.
- Required after replacing ECU or injectors to allow proper recognition and fuel control.
OBDII Functions for All OBDII-Compatible Vehicles
- Read Codes: Retrieve generic (P0, P2, P3, U0) and manufacturer-specific (P1, P3, U1) permanent and pending DTCs.
- Erase Codes: Clear stored diagnostic trouble codes.
- Determine MIL: Turn off Check Engine Light (MIL) after clearing codes and resetting monitors.
- DataStream: View real-time PCM data with color graphing and fast refresh rates.
- Freeze Frame Data: Access snapshot of vehicle conditions at the moment an emission-related fault occurred.
- I/M Readiness Test: Check if emissions systems are ready for inspection and maintenance testing.
- O2 Sensor Test: View results of recent O2 sensor tests from the vehicle’s computer.
- Evap System Test: Initiate leak test for the EVAP system (follow vehicle manual for procedures).
- On-Board Monitoring: Read diagnostic monitoring results for specific components/systems.
- Vehicle Information: Display VIN, CVN, and other vehicle data.
- Comprehensive Help: Includes OBD parameters, mode explanations, DTC search, and more.
